About Scott County

County Profile

Scott County has been one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Minnesota for the last several decades, with a 16 percent population increase from 2010 to 2020 alone. The 2020 U.S. Census tallied the County’s population at 150,928, which is expected to increase by 50,000 people by the year 2040 (according to Metropolitan Council population forecasts).

Scott County has a land area of 365 square miles and is bound on the west and north by the Minnesota River. The Minnesota River supported the county's fur trading, lumbering, and farming industries in the 1800s.  Today, Scott County enjoys a growing mix of commercial, industrial, and housing development, yet also maintains its rural flavor.
