Marriage Certificate Application Process

We are accepting appointments driver's licenses as well as a few additional services in the Deputy Registrar office.  See below for a comprehensive list.  Please be aware we are not accepting appointments for tab renewals at this time.  These will continue to be done via drop box.  Should you need to speak with a representative about other options, please call 952-496-8432. 

You may make an appointment if your transaction is one of the following:

  • Vehicle transfer
  • Duplicate title
  • Lien release
  • Name change on title
  • Special plate application or transfer
  • Specialty registration such as farm quarters, high/low, partial pay
  • Disability plates
  • Marriage Licenses
  • Drivers Licenses

All other services such as tabs, title transfers, disability certificates, duplicate titles, and other deputy registrar services will continue to be offered through the drop boxes or mail. Please ensure that all transactions left in the drop boxes have a phone number enclosed. Requests will be processed within 48 hours and returned via mail.

Marriage certificates are on file in Scott County only if the applicants applied for their marriage license in Scott County. If the application was made in another county, contact that county or use the MOMS website to obtain a marriage certificate.
 

Option 1: Apply via email


 
Send an email to customerservicevm@co.scott.mn.us that includes the following information:
 
  •  Full names of both applicants
  • Applicant's name before marriage (if changed)
  • Date of marriage
  • Correct fees (see below)
  • Your return address

Ensure your daytime contact information is provided in the body of the email. Applications without contact information cannot be processed.  Staff will call you at the time of processing to obtain credit/debit information. A 2.49% service fee is assessed on all credit/debit transactions. Your request will be processed within 24 hours and your certificate(s) will be mailed to the address provided in the email.



Send an email Option 2: Request by mail or drop box

  

Simply write a short note and include the following information (there is no application form needed):
 
  • Full names of both applicants
  • Applicant's name before marriage (if changed)
  • Date of marriage
  • Correct fees (see below)
  • Your return address

Do not send cash.

 

Cost


The fee is $9 for each certified copy requested.  
 
You can pay with cash, check (payable to Scott County) or credit card. If you pay with a credit card you will be paying a 2.45% convenience fee.
