Car Seats

Car Seat Checks

Four out of five car seats are installed wrong! Minnesota law requires all children who are eight (8) and under or 4 foot 9 inches or taller (whichever comes first) to ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat.

The Scott County Sheriff's office offers free car seat checks for parents and caretakers. Deputy Amy Weckman is a Certified Car Seat Technician for all of Scott County. She will inspect the car seat and evaluate how it is installed in the vehicle.

Click on the link below if you are interested in requesting a car seat or car seat appointment. The Sheriff's Office serves the rural townships of Scott County. If you live within city limits, please contact your local police department to schedule an appointment with them.

  • Appointments last approximately 30-45 minutes and will be an educational experience about your car seat and/or safety options that are available.
  • Deputy Weckman will ensure that your car seat is properly sized for your child and will provide information on the next phase of car seat (for when your child outgrows his/her current car seat), if applicable.
  • If the child will not be in attendance, please make a note of your child’s known height and weight prior to your appointment.
  • Translators are available with advanced request.
  • All appointments must occur within Scott County.
If you have any questions about car seat safety or car seat installation or checks, please contact Deputy Weckman by email or by calling (952) 496-8862.
