Minnesota Sheriff's Association Scholarship

About the Scholarship

The members of the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association (the coordinated efforts of the 87 Sheriffs throughout the State of Minnesota) give special recognition every year to the financial needs of students attending the peace officers skills course or 1 of the 2 or 4 year law enforcement degree colleges. The MSA recognizes the importance of pre-entry training for people considering law enforcement as their career choices. It also recognizes that some students need outside help in meeting the costs of such training, even though they excel academically.

The scholarship committee, in making its selection of awards, intends on achieving representation from all geographical areas of the state. Applications will be received until October 15 of each year, with scholarship awards being announced by December 31 of the same year.

Scholarship Qualifications

Application forms and a statement of procedures are available at the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. Scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following 3 categories:

  1. Mandated POST Skills Program
  2. In their second year of a two-year law enforcement program
  3. In their third or fourth year of a four year college criminal justice program.

In order to qualify, students must have completed at least 1 year of the 2 year program or 2 years of a 4 year program. Students meeting these criteria are invited to obtain a scholarship application from their local Sheriff’s Office or online at the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association website.
