Purpose
The main purpose of the Scott County Reserve Unit is to support the Sheriff’s Office mission statement and goals. The Unit is comprised of trained personnel who provide supplementary assistance for the Sheriff’s Office and other agencies requesting assistance during special events, traffic and/or crowd control and various security details. Additional responsibilities would include transporting subjects detained for substance abuse treatment, property checks, warrant transports and training scenarios.
Become a Reserve Deputy
The Reserve Unit supports both Patrol and Mounted personnel. In general each new recruit will be required to complete an application, a background investigation, Interview process and a ten-week Academy. The Academy is held once a year, normally starting in the month of February and is held one day per week through evening classes. Each prospective recruit will also be required to request an invitation to a unit meeting and schedule a short screening with the membership clerk. The membership clerk will then provide all needed material and information concerning the program.
To receive an invitation to a unit meeting, make your requests via email at sheriffreserverecruit@co.scott.mn.us or call Reserve Deputy Chris Shoaff at 612-396-3074. Reserve Deputy Shoaff will contact you with a meeting date and time. You may also apply online: Scott Volunteers Online Application Form.
