One of the primary duties of the Sheriff's Office is the management of the Scott County Jail. The jail is a 264-bed facility that opened in 2005. The jail houses sentenced and pre-trial adult male and female offenders in a combination of direct supervision and remote supervision housing units. The jail is also allowed to hold certain juvenile offenders for a limited time until the appropriate housing is found. The jail operates a full-service laundry and kitchen, has its own medical unit to conduct clinic visits, and has its own courtroom.
The Scott County Jail is located within the Scott County Law Enforcement Center. The public entrance to the jail is the north entrance of the Law Enforcement Center closest to the corner of 3rd Avenue West and Fuller Street in downtown Shakopee.
