Youth Snowmobile Training hosted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office will take place on December 16th, 2017 and December 17th, 2017. Children ages 11 through 15 years are welcome to attend. The training will take place at the Regional Training Facility (RTF), 17706 Valley View Drive, Jordan, MN 55352.

The DNR requires a waiver that needs to be submitted by the Sheriff's Office. These waivers will be available at the training and will need to be signed by a parent/legal guardian before training begins. If your child will be dropped off by somebody that is not their parent/legal guardian and you would like the form mailed to you prior to training day, please let us know below:

Children must complete online training through the DNR website.
The online Youth Snowmobile Safety Training class is an introductory class designed primarily for the snowmobile rider with little or no experience in snowmobile operation. Students obtain and study the safety information on the interactive online course at their own pace in the comfort of their own home under the guidance of a parent or guardian. Depending on the youth’s age and experience, the online course should take approximately 2-4 hours to complete.
The online training can be found by visiting this website: http://dnr.state.mn.us/safety/vehicle/snowmobile/index.html. Children will not be allowed to participate in the field training unless they have first completed the Youth Snowmobile Safety Online Course.
Children must attend a one day classroom review and riding performance course.
Once the student completes the online course, they will need to print the “Youth Follow-up Voucher” from the DNR’s website and register for a one-day snowmobile safety field training - either through a private trainer in their area or through the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 25 STUDENTS PER SESSION - SIGN UP EARLY. SNOWMOBILES WILL BE PROVIDED AND WE ASK THAT ATTENDEES DO NOT BRING THEIR OWN SNOWMOBILES. CHILDREN WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING THE APPROPRIATE CLOTHING DEPENDING ON WEATHER, INCLUDING A SNOWMOBILE HELMET. CLASS WILL OCCUR RAIN OR SHINE. TO HAVE YOUR SNOWMOBILE SAFETY CERTIFICATION ADDED TO YOUR MINNESOTA DRIVER’S LICENSE, BRING YOUR SNOWMOBILE CERTIFICATE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES (DMV) WHEN YOU RENEW YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE AND REQUEST THEM TO CHECK THE BOX TO ADD IT AS AN ENDORSEMENT.
I, am the parent of the above-named child, a participant in the Youth Snowmobile Training field day hosted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, hereby acknowledge that I know that operating and being around motorized vehicles carries the potential risk of personal injury. I know that there are natural and man-made conditions and risks, which in combination with the actions of my child or those of others, may cause my child severe or fatal injury. I agree that as a parent of a participant I and my child accept these risks, conditions, and hazards. I also agree the organizers or other participants in this training are not responsible for my child’s safety while she or he participates in this event and for the costs resulting from any injury my child may suffer from this event.
I hereby release the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and any persons or entities connected with this event from all liability for any injuries or damages incurred as a result of my child’s participation in this event. This release extends to all claims of every kind or nature whatsoever, foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown. I understand that by signing this waiver I am agreeing that I shall not bring any form of claim or legal proceeding against Scott County for any such injuries to my child.
In connection with this event, photographs may be taken during the duration of the training. I give permission for electronic or photographic images of my children to be used by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office in its print or electronic media. I understand these photographs, although they will not include last names, will be available for public view. I agree my children may participate without financial remuneration, and I understand that this releases photographs and Scott County from any future claims as well as any liability arising from the use of said photographs.
